The Universal Peace Sanctuary’s Gala on International Peace Day 2024

KATHMANDU — On the occasion of International Peace Day 2024, the Universal Peace Sanctuary organized a special program at Shyalpa Monastery in Kapan, Kathmandu. The event was presided over by His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche, who delivered an inspiring keynote address on the importance of global peace.


The program opened with a welcome speech by Sunil Sakya, a lifetime member of the Universal Peace Sanctuary. Sakya warmly greeted the esteemed guests, including diplomats, social workers, peace advocates, and representatives from the diplomatic community. In his address, Sakya emphasized the significance of the occasion and the Universal Peace Sanctuary’s mission to bring people together for the promotion of global peace. He remarked, “Today, we gather not just to celebrate peace but to renew our commitment to making it a reality for all.”


Midway through the event, an innovative new platform, the “Peace Metaverse,” was launched. Designed to foster collaboration and peacebuilding in the digital realm, the Peace Metaverse aims to create virtual spaces where global leaders, diplomats, and individuals can connect and work together to promote peace initiatives worldwide.


The gathering was attended by the ambassadors, diplomats, Mayor of Budhanilkantha Municipality and his team,social workers, and lifetime members of the Universal Peace Sanctuary.


His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche emphasized the need for fostering peace based on unconditional love and compassion. “Sustainable solutions to global issues can only be found through the path of peace,” he stated. He added, “Let’s make peace more fashionable than war,” calling for a renewed focus on compassion and understanding. He also provided updates on the construction of the Universal Peace Sanctuary in Lumbini and expressed gratitude to the donors and supporters of the project.


A special presentation titled “Mayadevi Musical Play,” depicting the life and contributions of Queen Mayadevi, the mother of Lord Buddha, was also part of the program. Traditional Nepalese music and cultural performances further enriched the event.
The gala delivered a strong message of global peace and unity, aligning with the Universal Peace Sanctuary’s mission to promote peace, compassion, and understanding as alternatives to war and conflict.
